A show of ceramic paintings depicting people alongside their thoughts and emotions. Chemistry of the brain manifests in an array of often unpredictable feelings, perceptions and intuitive conclusions…unique to the individual and to circumstance. In States of Mind, Ben draws a parallel between this confounding and nebulous process of awareness, and the equally complex processes that occur in experimental glaze chemistry. By taking risks with unknown formulas and chemical combinations, Ben encourages the glaze to play upon the minds of each subject, as if fleshing out the fleeting and ephemeral possibilities while molten, then solidifying the state of mind into a static ceramic artifact.
