EMERYVILLE, CA — Bring yourself, and bring your friends May 6 to The Compound Gallery as we invite you to an evening reception to kick off Oakland artist Ben Belknap’s latest exhibit “Cave In.”
Nearly 60 of Belknap’s pieces — featuring small-scale ceramic sculptures and richly glazed paintings — will explore the artist’s observations of people and places related to various interpretations of the exhibit title. The show will also include pieces exploring plants, aquatic life, and ceramics, itself. The May 6 exhibit opening with the artist will be held from 6-9 p.m. at Compound Gallery, 1339 61st Street in Emeryville.
Belknap has participated in eight group shows at the Compound Gallery over the past 14 years and “Cave In” marks Belknap’s second solo show at The Compound Gallery. Belknap is known for his mastery of glazes and small forms. His playful approach to his subject matter, use of unpredictable glaze textures and combinations, and ability to paint with underglaze, gives his work an expressive quality that always surprises and delights.
“Cave In” will show between May 6, 2023 and June 18, 2023.
