Let’s celebrate 10 years of ART with 10 amazing artists showing 10 themed art! We will be giving away FREE pennants and more! Plus, see our new Art Machine, and explore our facilities! We selected works by 10 Bay Area artists that we have worked with over the years and they have each explored the number 10 and produced works that have been inspired by 10!

The Compound Gallery, one of the Bay Area’s premier art galleries, will celebrate a decade of art with a 10 themed show. “Decennial” is set to open on Saturday, May 12 and will feature 10 prominent Bay Area artists as well as a full schedule of art demos throughout  12,000-square-feet of open studios.

Throughout the years, the Oakland-based gallery has earned numerous accolades including recognition as the best art hangout and the best art studio complex by the East Bay Express. The artist-run studio space is head by directors Matt and Lena Reynoso (named a Bay Area Power couple by 7×7 Magazine) and has hosted hundreds of artists within its studios over the past decade. It’s also been recognized for its efforts to promote local art through by several media outlets, including the San Francisco Chronicle.

What sets The Compound Gallery apart from other art spaces is its focus on promoting old-fashioned forms of art alongside new technology. One example is that the gallery, which provides 24-7 access to all of its artists, features three letterpress machines — one of the oldest forms of commercial printing — alongside a high-tech art lab with a number of 3D printers.

In order to make an impact on the global art scene, openings and artist’s talks are streamed live on Compound Gallery TV. Also, the gallery’s unique art subscription service — Art in a Box — has mailed thousands original works of art to subscribers across the world since 2009.

Over the past 10 years, The Compound has continually strove to improve the facilities for the artistic community it houses. Located in two side by side buildings, the studio space includes areas for etching, letterpress, ceramics, screen printing and digital media and photography as well as a woodshop, metal shop and sew lab.

In addition to providing a home for a vibrant artistic community, The Compound Gallery has also worked to improve the community-at-large through offering numerous art residencies including a free six-month interdisciplinary artists in residence program, an AGITPROP printmaking residency to promote art for a cause and a Temporally Advanced Artist Residency for those 65-plus. The gallery also regularly hosts art classes open to the public in mediums such as screen printing and letterpress.

Schedule of events below. All events are FREE and open to the public. Come to our Main building at 1167 65th st. Children are welcome to attend except for the woodturning demo. We will give you a map upon arrival.  Please check back for updates (Updated 5/7/18).  Click here to join our Facebook Event
